QX events take place during the winter and include several different multisport off road races. They provide the perfect opportunity to race and / or train over the winter months. QX is for you whether you have never raced before or race every weekend, whether you are a sprinter or an endurance athlete, whether you are a runner or a biker, or whether you are out to compete, do some training or have a just have some fun! QX races combine the physical demands of multi-sport endurance with the exhilarating challenge of off-road racing in some unique and beautiful locations.
All QX RacesQX races are suitable for everyone and anyone irrespective of your ability and fitness level. Courses are designed with this in mind so expect them to be challenging but not overly technical. Most of the tracks are wide, offering plenty of opportunity for overtaking so there’s little chance of getting stuck or held up behind a slower competitor. All QX races offer both short and long courses. The long course is aimed at more experienced and endurance athletes, while the short course is more appropriate for sprint distance and novice multi-sport competitors. Some courses may involve more than one consecutive lap of the same route in order to make up the appropriate distance. This depends on the size of the venue. All courses are clearly marked and marshals will be on hand to point you in the right direction where necessary. You don’t need to be able to navigate or read a map to take part – you just need to be able to follow the course markings! Participants enter and compete as individuals. There is a separate team category for clubs / teams with three or more participants in the same race. The best three individual results count towards a team's ranking. All QX races begin with a mass start.
QX Off Road DuathlonsQX Off Road Duathlons follow a run - bike - run format that combines the best of trail running and endurance mountain biking mixed in with a bit of mud and loads of fun! The two runs i.e. the run before you cycle and the run after you cycle will typically both follow the same route. Many of the trails used for QX Off Road Duathlons are large well formed tracks. However, don't be fooled, despite a firm base they can still be wet and muddy on top so a mountain bike with off road tyres is definately recommended together with a pair of off road trail running shoes. Average course distances are 2.5 km – 7.5 km – 2.5 km for the short course and 5 km – 15 km – 5 km for the long course. These distances are given as a general guide for all QX Off Road Duathlons. As all courses are designed to fit the space available at the venue location actual course distances may differ from the guideline distances outlined above. For a more accurate estimation of the course distance for a particular Off Road Duathlon please see the appropriate event page.
